YouTube Favourites of an Internet-trained Cook

I am a child of the internet. My love for cooking stems from my family, but it has been enhanced and honed by the internet, especially YouTube. Wonderful people from all around the world come together to share their knowledge of food; it's a source of inspiration. From home cooks to professional chefs, YouTube is filled with culinary geniuses.

Over the years I've gained so much knowledge from this platform, I couldn't help but write this blog post to express my gratitude for the wonderful food community of YouTube. So here are some of my absolute favourite food-centric YouTube channels —

SORTEDfood

When I first started watching Youtube obsessively in 2012 this was the food channel I stumbled upon. Four British lads, one of them a professional chef and three of his mates, coming together to make teach-and-learn cooking videos. They were funny, they were cute, and obviously, the accents. What was not to like?

Overtime they have grown to become one of the best cooking shows on Youtube and definitely one of my favourites. Their videos range from creative recipes to ultimate food battles, whacky challenges to picturesque food vlogs. These guys are the all-in-one package you do not want to miss.

Everyday Food - Kitchen Conundrums with Thomas Joseph

A branch of Martha Stewart's food ventures, Everyday Food is run by editor Sarah Carey. It features quick and easy recipes for daily cooking.

However, the real star of this channel is the series 'Kitchen Conundrums with Thomas Joseph'. The show's charm lies in the simplified, precise and easy-to-understand approach applied by chef Thomas Joseph in solving the most basic to trivial kitchen problems. Science geek me is so fascinated by his explanation of cooking techniques using a scientific approach to food.

Trust me on this one, if you're looking to buff up your basic cooking skills, or just love science and food.

Binging with Babish

"Binging with Babish is a cooking show dedicated to discovering what the delectable (and occasionally horrible) foods from fiction actually taste like."

Famous fictional dishes made in real life. You heard it right. Andrew Rea, the genius behind this show, is a straightforward guy with a clever sense of humour and amazingly self-taught cooking skills.

If you've ever watched a movie or TV show and  thought "This can't possibly be made in real life!", BWB is here to prove you wrong. Thank me once you're binging. ;)

Alex French Guy Cooking

The Casey Neistat of food on YouTube. Quirky, curious and creative, Alex is a self taught home cook who makes weekly food vlogs. They range from perfecting basics to in-depth analysis of renowned dishes to extreme DIYs in his kitchen studio. The energy, curiosity, and oh, that swoony Parisian accent will have you reeled in.

Cupcake Jemma

British cupcake queen Jemma Wilson is the creator of CupcakeJemma on Youtube and cake shop Crumbs & Doilies in London. Her channel is my trusted source for most of the sweet treats I bake.

Every week Jemma brings to you super creative and irresistible tutorials for cupcakes, cakes, and lots of other baked goodies!

Medium & Rare

Medium & Rare by Assad Dadan (my very talented brother), along with Novus Pictures, create culinary and travel vlogs - I Was Here.

As a viewer, you get to experience cities from all around the world, awash in their culture, gastronomic history and scenic landscapes. It is definitely a treat for the eyes.

A new series named "Sessions" was recently launched, showcasing local chefs and the love for their craft.

Donal Skehan

Boy-band star turned food celebrity, Donal Skehan is a food writer, presenter and photographer from Ireland. His YouTube channel is full of recipe videos with Asian and Italian influences, as well as traditional Irish dishes and sweet treats. Add to that Donal's cheerful personality and adorable Irish lilt, you've got the perfect cooking show host!

Jamie Oliver's FoodTube

Yes, the beloved Jamie Oliver has his own YouTube channel and it is just as cheeky as the man himself! FoodTube is a community of European chefs and home cooks lead by Jamie Oliver, featuring a range of recipe videos - from quick, easy and healthy meals, to deliciously comforting traditional dishes, all with an influence of various Europeans countries.

Buzzfeed's — Worth It

If you're a fan of the show, you already know this famous line.

'Today on Worth It we're gonna try three ~theme~ at three drastically different price points, to find out which ~theme~ is the most #WorthIt at its price.'

The simple and fresh concept of this show, coupled with internet's now-favourite trio- Steven, Andrew, and Adam, has made it an online favourite. With season 3 coming to an end this week, now is the perfect time to binge before it returns with its next season.

Peaceful Cuisine

As the name suggests, Peaceful Cuisine is all about calming cooking videos that feel almost therapeutic to watch. Ryoya Takashima, from Japan, aims to spread his knowledge and belief in a vegan lifestyle to show how we can bring about world peace through the food choices we make.

His videos on Youtube stand out for their minimalistic approach. Every action, every sound is so beautifully captured and presented, it will leave you in a state of zen. One of my favourites is his tutorial on Soba Noodles - an inspiring display of art and skill.

The Scran Line

If you can dream of an unusual cupcake, The Scran Line has probably already made it. Nick from Australia, has combined his passion for graphic design and pastries, showcasing it on his youtube channel. All of his creations, from cupcakes to cakes to macarons, are magnificent works of art, popping with colours and flavours.

Byron Talbott

Byron Talbott brings to you innovative dishes made in his home kitchen, employing his vocational knowledge as a chef. His recipe videos are simplistic, well-shot, with easy to follow explanations. They feature many classic dishes with his own twist. If you're invested in cooking and like to experiment, this channel is for you.

Laura in the Kitchen

Laura Vitale, the beloved modern Italian nonna of YouTube. Just like the bubbly hostess herself, her recipes are unapologetically bold & bursting with flavour. She doesn't promise petite pretty plates or fancy dishes, but what she guarantees are big pots full of heartwarming flavours and comforting food. Try out any of her recipes and you will not be disappointed, my friend.

That's all for my list, but I'd love to know your favourite culinary Youtube channels. Leave them in the comments below and do share this post with your fellow food loving friends!

Until next time, pasta la vista!
